Rest & Relaxation: The Seven Types of Rest

Most people think that resting means sitting still and doing absolutely nothing, but this is not true. Did you know that there are seven types of rest? This post will outline the seven types of rest that everyone needs in order to feel refreshed.

  1. Physical Rest- This type of rest allows you to rest your body. You might need this kind of rest if you have low energy, feel exhausted, and sleepy. If you need this kind of rest try getting enough sleep, make sure you're drinking enough water, and make movement a part of your day.

  2. Social Rest- This type of rest allows you to take a break from people. You might need this kind of rest if you have been feeling exhausted from socializing, feeling drained from your relationships, or feeling disconnected from the people around you. If you need this kind of rest try doing something alone at least once a day, so you can reconnect with yourself.

  3. Spiritual Rest- This type of rest allows you to reconnect with your sense of purpose. You might need this kind of rest if you are feeling a lack of peace, unanchored, and lack purpose. If you need this kind of rest try praying, reading the bible, go bless someone with an act of kindness.

  4. Emotional Rest-This type of rest allows you to take a break from feeling. You might need this kind of rest if you are feeling emotionally drained, you start feeling yourself caring less when other people are talking, and you find yourself being unauthentic. If you need this kind of rest try setting boundaries, speak up for yourself, and talk to someone about how you're feeling.

  5. Creative Rest- This type of rest allows you to take a break from creating. You might need this if you are lacking creative ideas, are feeling pressured to create, or are having an "artistic block". If you need this kind of rest try a new hobby, spend time in a different environment, or make a list of ideas that you can work on later.

  6. Mental Rest- This type of rest allows you to take a break from thinking. You might need this kind of rest if you're feeling mentally foggy, can't focus, and you're starting to feel anxious or irritable. If you need this kind of rest try scheduling breaks during the day, meditate, or go for a walk.

  7. Sensory rest- This type of rest allows you to reduce your stimuli. You might need this kind of rest if you find yourself being overwhelmed by lights, music, the screen, or noise. If you need this kind of rest try driving in silence or unplugging from your devices.

I hope this helps
